Day Camp Achievements

The following is the response sent from the Day Camp Staff concerning achievements that were available during this year's Cub Day Camp.

"Day Camp for Cub Scouts is about experiencing the outdoors. With this being our focus, we do not plan the program around achievements. Therefore, we don't know exactly what would be 'passed off'. However, because of the limited approved venues for Archery and BB, we do make sure to provide for the requirements of those two belt loops. As for anything else, you can use the list of what was done at each of the stations and see where it might fit. A checklist of requirements does not exist.

Off the top of my head I can think of some things that were done at this year's camp that could count for some requirements/electives:
- Play a large area game with den (Wolf)
- Make a simple compass (Map & Compass belt loop)
- Orient a map (Map & Compass belt loop)
- Learn the rules of kickball and play a game (Kickball belt loop)
- Participate in a nature observation activity (Outdoor Activity Award)
- Participate in 3 physical fitness related activities (Wolf)
- Practice the principals of Leave No Trace on an outing: pick up trash (Leave No Trace Award)
- Go to day camp (Outdoor Activity Award)
- Outdoor flag ceremony: IF YOU ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED (Wolf and Bear)
- Play an organized game (Bear)
- Pocketknife knowledge/work (Bear)

There are probably others. As a Den Leader you are more familiar with the specific requirements of the rank. Also keep in mind that if a boy wasn't participating in an activity, you should not do a blanket pass-off just because he was there. There are achievements that require the boy to "tell a Den Leader" or "talk about". These weren't done at camp and will need follow up at the Den level. In fact, we did cover 5 requirements that would allow the boy to earn the BB pin (NOT Archery) but it requires him to go and "tell a Den Leader" about safety, etc. Please be honest when you give awards as TRUSTWORTHY is the first point of the Scout Law and the central pin upon which all Scouting hinges. Thanks for your participation in this year's camp."

Sincerely, Porter Rockwell Day Camp Staff
